Spotlight On Technology
Because of your caring generosity, Perley is now home to four Magic Tables, allowing residents like Don, a retired navy captain, to develop a routine filled with purpose, mental stimulation, and social connection. This cutting-edge therapeutic equipment is designed to engage, entertain, and develop the skills of people living with various cognitive and physical abilities.
Your kindness transforms lives and reminds Veterans like Don that they are never alone. Thank you!
Spotlight On Priority Needs For Veterans
The incredible, ongoing support from Royal Canadian Legions and the Poppy Fund continue to help fund priority needs for Veterans at Perley Health. Thanks to their dedicated generosity, Veterans benefit from brand new specialized bath lifts, palliative care carts, physiotherapy equipment, accessible outdoor spaces, and more. These impactful purchases enhance safety, dignity, and comfort in daily living while supporting meaningful connections for Veterans and their families. Every gift ensures staff have the equipment they need to go above and beyond, creating a caring and inclusive environment for those who served our country.
Spotlight On Therapeutic Tools For Dementia
We asked and you answered! Your generosity on Giving Tuesday (December 3, 2024) brought calm and comfort to residents living with dementia. Your incredible desire to help brought in enough to purchase three mobile Multi-Sensory Environment (MSE) carts—specialized tools that help soothe anxiety, reduce agitation, and create moments of peace for residents living with dementia. These carts, filled with calming lights, aromatherapy, soothing sounds, and sensory textures, bring relief right to residents’ rooms or familiar spaces.
Your compassionate caring didn’t just meet the goal; it exceeded it, ensuring even greater impact for those who call Perley Health home. Thank you for transforming lives.
Spotlight On Advancing Veteran Care
Groundbreaking research is shaping the future of care for Veterans, thanks to your support of the Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care. The Aging in Place for Veterans research report, authored by Dr. Annie Robitaille, the Commissionaires Ottawa Research Chair at the Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care, provides a comprehensive roadmap for enabling Veterans to age with dignity and independence. The report highlights current best practices, innovative care models, and key challenges, while offering actionable recommendations to support Veterans aging in place.
This important work reflects the impact of your support in advancing care and improving the lives of those who served.
Spotlight On Excellence In End-Of-Life Care
Thanks to your generosity, Perley Health hosted its first-ever Skills Days in October 2024, where 80 nurses from across Ottawa and beyond enhanced their skills in palliative and end-of-life care. Your support helped create opportunities for these dedicated caregivers to connect, collaborate, and participate in hands-on learning exercises that addressed sensitive topics like death and dying—challenges often faced by new hires in long-term care.
"The delivery of thoughtful end-of-life care is an area of deep concern and deep compassion throughout our home and region, and it was meaningful to be able to support this initiative."
~Jessie Stephenson, Spiritual Practitioner, Perley Health
