Accreditation Canada Awards Perley Health Exemplary Standing Perley Health earns highest designation for the second time

April 26, 2023

Accreditation Canada, an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits health organizations in Canada and around the world, has again awarded its top-level designation to Perley Health. The designation, known as Exemplary Standing, is the result of a comprehensive assessment against established standards of excellence in healthcare quality and safety. Perley Health first earned the Exemplary Standing designation in 2018.

“Today’s announcement is the result of the exceptional dedication and professionalism of our staff, complemented by the strong support of families, donors and volunteers,” says Akos Hoffer, CEO, Perley Health. “Earning Exemplary Standing for a second time is proof positive that our mission of transforming care for Seniors and Veterans continues to inspire everyone in the Perley Health community.”

Accreditation Canada evaluates the performance of member organizations every four years against criteria set by the Standards Council of Canada, the International Society for Quality in Health Care and the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation. The evaluations assess performance on more than 500 criteria related to everything from infection control and emergency preparedness to safety and governance. Along with onsite examinations and document reviews, independent evaluators conduct interviews with residents, family members, staff, volunteers and Board members.

During its latest assessment, Perley Health met or exceeded more than 500 criteria. The Accreditation Canada assessment report cites several highlights, including: the ability to operate successfully throughout the pandemic; investments in employee education to safeguard excellent care and services; and the establishment and rapid rise to prominence of the Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care™.

“The best practices developed and validated at Perley Health are helping to improve the quality of care delivered elsewhere,” says Akos Hoffer. “Initiatives such as our Centre of Excellence in Frailty-Informed Care™ enable us to share best practices and relevant research so that everyone benefits.”
